- It is the Sunday before Easter, and marks the beginning of Holy Week, the week of events leading up to Jesus’ death, burial and resurrection.
It is a great and powerful commencement of the triumphant entry of Jesus into Jerusalem to celebrate Passover.
The Gospel records Jesus riding into the city on a donkey, being welcomed by a multitude of people, honoring Him as their long-awaited Messiah and King.
The streets became filled with palm branches, olive branches and the cloaks of the crowd as they shouted “Hosanna to the Son of David!” & “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!”
Some Facts!:
- The donkey was a symbol of peace; those who rode upon them proclaimed peaceful intentions.
