Even after Jesus got arrested, Peter followed Him. But in the Bible it says that Peter followed Jesus at a distance. (Matt 26:58) He wanted to be close enough to be involved, but not be close enough to be indicted over his involment.
Our version of that would be.....
"I want to be accepted by Jesus, but depending on who asks....I don't really want everyone to know"
The American church has been guilty of that.
We want to maintain an appropriate status with the culture and we are afraid of offending people.
Many places I've traveled to over the years have had an "apologetic attitude".
The radical and life changing message of Christ is stripped of it's power when we are constantly trying to alter the message to be "society friendly", and on top of that, leaving out the Holy Ghost.
- Everyday we are going to have to make the decision if we are going to maintain our distance or be so close to Jesus that there is no confusion about where we stand.
If we aren't radical about the message of Christ, and willing to do whatever it takes to be close to Him, then we've let the culture and distance come in between our relationship with Him.
Why is it that we allow ourselves to be excessive about everything vain, but when it comes to the things that really matter, many tend to coward down and just follow Christ "inwardly" or "safely" on our own terms? We are either all in or all out.

Are you just a fan.....or a true close follower of Christ?
